My style grew from a creative exploration of printmaking in high school. Although I still utilize many of the tools of printmaking (ink and brayers), the finished works are unique, individual large-scale paintings. The creation of these is an active, often visceral, process. I do not begin with a concept of the end. I layer color over color, scrape and scratch to excavate earlier hues, and shape textural elements. It is a spontaneous way of working that produces as many visual surprises for me, the painter, as it does for later viewers.
